Michael Lascarides
The artwork featured on this site is generated by my own custom software (written in the Ruby language). The images are vector graphics in the SVG file format, meaning the original files can be scaled up to any size (but they're presented on this site in bitmap form). They usually contain somewhere between 50,000 and 500,000 individual shapes.
Each group of artworks was produced at the same time with the same settings. The home page for each group lists the total number artworks produced by that run, and the number I decided to keep (all keepers are shown).
My background: computer user since 1982, internet user since 1987, web site builder since 1996. Currently a specialist in information architecture, usability analysis, and user experience design for the New York Public Library, and an adjunct professor in the computer art departments at SVA and NYU.
Prints for sale
Almost all of the works on the site are available for sale as archival large-format giclee prints. Images are printed to order on archival matte paper in 24" (60cm) or 40" (1m) square sizes. Prints are produced in an edition of one, so each is a unique art object. When a piece is printed, I destroy the original vector file, thus insuring uniqueness.
